Join us for a daily writing sprint at a time that works for you.

This writing sprint is for those of us whose schedules make it hard to commit to the same writing time every day, or maybe we’re allergic to group zooms, or appointment anything. All I know is that last year when I started a chat thread committing to spending time exclusively on new work…

It worked!

I finished Florida Girls (my historical fiction look at Tampa’s underworld coming out in May!), and made some headway on the second book in the series, Vegas Girls.

And then my memoir came out, along came the holidays, and my work schedule cranked up along with everything else, and blah blah blah. I stopped posting about sprints. My writing slowed way down.

Let’s get this party (re)started.

The button above takes you to the currently active sprint thread (I kept starting new Chats before realizing that’s not how it works in Substack; I’m still trying to understand how to foster a community here). Open to free and paid subscribers.

My aim is to sprint daily Monday through Friday. Maybe an hour, maybe 20 minutes!

I’ll check in on the chat and let you know what I’m going to work on and when (hopefully inspiring you to commit to the page too!). Maybe we’ll be on around the same time for a virtual high-five? I’ll definitely see your note.

The point is to commit to that project that’s so easy not to make time for.

How does this writing sprint work?

It’s a two-step process:

1. Check in when you can and tell us when you plan to commit to the page and what you’re working on.

2. Then come back and tell us how it went.

You might inspire someone else to slot that same time. Write for 20 minutes or two hours. Maybe it’s first thing in the morning or last thing at night. Up to you and your schedule.

There is magic in not slogging through alone.

Or maybe it’s the promise that encourages you to write.
