Maybe you can tell I’m facing Lake Ontario even as I type? #WFM rules.
Exploring new places has always been an idea generator, so, not surprisingly, this edition is JAM PACKED.
First up, I’ve been typing away. I got edits back and am working on finalizing Blissful Thinking: A Memoir of Surviving the Wellness Revolution. If you're reading this, you've probably heard stories about what happened after my marriage ended, the years I spent bouncing between gurus in India, healers in NYC, and/or anyone with a pulse willing to tell me what was wrong with me. So many stories. If you signed up for an ARC, Hi! Those are still a ways away, but this is where you’ll get all the BTS goodies. I’ll start with this, a picture of me on the beach in Arambol with Gustav and AJ. We were a Platonic trio, because sometimes that’s for the best. Pro tip, India is full of beaches.
Also, I’ve begun working with Medium editors where I’ll be offering writing and publishing tips, as well as essays and articles (like, The Sexual Politics of Population Decline, and Simone Biles Just Gave The World A Master Class in Courage). Or you can see them all in one place. If there’s something you want to know more about, let me know right here.
And finally, I finished the pilot I’ve been working on!! Okay, so finished means there’s a story arc there. Now, let the editing begin.
So much cool stuff!
One of the great things about Medium is discovering other writers there, like Laura Khoudari. She writes about how yoga and other types of mindful practices can trigger trauma, and what you can do about it. Check out this piece of hers:
Does this scare you at all? I mean, cool and all, but, what’s next?
Ooh, here’s another story I LOVED! I have been obsessed with the gender reveal phenom since I started seeing these events pop up a few years ago. Love this explainer from Amanda Montei.
Watch a master at work: John August does script punch up:
And this one is off brand, but hasn’t Ted Lasso made us all a little more sportsball-ic?
This one is interesting for aspiring directors (and actors0. It’s Tom Huddleston talking about his career, and around the 7:40 mark, he talks about what he needs from a scene, and a director.
Finally, here’s an excerpt from the next book on my TBR list, Gina Frangello’s Blow Your House Down. What’s really fascinating, for those of you who don’t follow the regular outrages of authors, is that the New York Times wrote a fairly scathing review of this book. On the same day. Anyway, the book has gone on to the best-seller list, and now of course I’m curious. Have you read it yet? What did you think?
SEE YOU NEXT MONTH!
Lisa--yes, this is indeed breezy fun! And reviews, while not breezy fun and games, can be... interesting. Good to see books can move beyond them. (And haven't read it.)
